Calls For Widespread Reform Grow

JULY 2010 VOICE: The Washington, DC-based Coalition to Assure Retirement Equity (CARE), of which the Associaton is a founding member, held a major summit in late March to discuss ongoing efforts to repeal  Social Security's Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

More than a decade after the formation of CARE, membership has swelled to include a broad range of organizations from every corner of the country. Together, over 80 different groups have brought the WEP/GPO to the forefront of the national Social Security debate.

Association Leads Bipartisian Effort

MAY 2010 VOICE: At a time when many have given up hope that Congress would focus on much beyond healthcare reform and job creation this winter, our Association has stepped up its efforts on the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

In March, Association Legislative Liaison Shawn Duhamel met with members of the state’s Congressional Caucus in Washington, DC. The trip coincided with a National Summit on WEP/GPO, held within the US Capitol, and included representatives of retiree organizations across the country.

Join With Association To Repeal WEP/GPO

NOVEMBER 2009: The world is truly flat when it comes to modern economics, as well as politics. With the information age of computers providing instant access to information, partnerships and coalitions are being formed that were unlikely just a few years ago.

This summer the Association was contacted by The Grassroots Committee for Social Security Fairness , which is a Northern California based teachers' organization formed this spring. Their goal, like that of our Association, is to repeal the Social Security Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).
