JULY 2000 -
A full court press has been initiated by the Coalition to Assure
Retirement Security (CARE) and its lead organization, the National
Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) for congressional
hearings on the Government Pension Offset (GPO) this summer. NARFE has
been urging its members and the coalition to contact the Congress and
push for action on GPO relief.
Congressman
Clay Shaw (R-Ft. Lauderdale) has received a great deal of attention
since he is the chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee that will
conduct the hearings on the issue. Currently 230 congressmen (well over
half) have cosponsored H.R. 1217, which provides GPO relief and now
sits in that subcommittee.
