MARCH 2005 - Thanks Supporters For Their Vote - Association President Ralph White has been reelected to a new three-year term on the State Board of Retirement.

Facing only one opponent, Carol Parak Kurzman, a Director of Human Resources for the Department of Housing and Community Development, White captured 80.7% of the vote. The final tally was 24,575 votes for White and 5,846 for Kurzman.

White thanked his supporters for the strong vote he received and promised to continue to give all retirees and employees of the Commonwealth the best possible representation on the State Board and at the State House.

"The State Board is one of the 106 retirement boards whose retirees our Association represents. Although I am a member of the State Retirement System and serve on the State Board, my loyalty includes members of all retirement systems. This encompasses the smallest of our systems such as North Adams and Clinton as well as our mega-systems - Teachers', Boston and Middlesex," White said.

"No retirement system can go it alone on Beacon Hill. Although members of the Legislature belong to the State Retirement System, the Senators and Representatives are aware of the needs of their constituents in their home districts who belong to local retirement systems," White pointed out. "They (legislators) know we work as a team... they respect our loyalty to all retirement systems and their members."

White also praised his own Board, saying the "State Board is truly a member-friendly board. Our Board and staff will always do everything possible to help our members."

In addition to White, the Board's members are State Treasurer Tim Cahill (chairman), Theresa McGoldrick, Christopher Condon and Peter Koutoujian, Nick Favorito is the Board's executive director.
