NOVEMBER 2005 - Without losing a step, the state's retiree dental plan continues to experience phenomenal growth - an average of 42% over its first 3 years of operation. This plan, which is offered to retirees and their families insured under the state's Group Insurance Commission (GIC), is administered by Altus Dental. "Recently we reported that the dental plan had about 6,200 enrollees," comments Insurance Coordinator Cheryl Stillman. "After this year's open enrollment, that number has jumped to some 8,055 - another 29% increase.

"Our Association first promoted the creation of a state-sponsored dental plan for retirees and then worked closely with the GIC to make it a reality. We remain optimistic that it will be recognized as a leading program of this type."

When it began operations in July 2002, the GIC retiree dental plan had approximately 3,570 enrollees. With 8,055 now insured by the program, there has been a 125% growth since inception.
