MARCH 2002 - In one of his last official acts as Quincy mayor, James Sheets announced that the basic life insurance coverage for all active and retired employees of the city would increase from $5,000 to $7,500, effective Jan. 1, 2002 and would increase again from $7,500 to $10,000, effective July 1, 2002.

Sheets made the announcement at a meeting of the Quincy Retiree Association (QRA) shortly before losing last year's mayoral election to William Phalen by 17 votes. Sheets had served as mayor for 12 years.

Pauline Kennedy, Arthur Foster and Steve Moynihan represent members of the QRA at monthly meetings of the Quincy Insurance Advisory Committee. Moynihan, a retired Quincy school business manager, is president of the QRA, a powerful 1,300-member organization. Moynihan and most members of the QRA are active members of our Association.
