Health Insurance Pool Begins Second Decade Of Operation PDF Print E-mail
NOVEMBER 2002 - Having just completed its tenth anniversary, the health insurance pool, known as the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA) Health Benefits Trust. MIIA is the insurance arm of the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA).

"As part of our ongoing study of developments in municipal health insurance, we've been monitoring the various insurance pools throughout the Commonwealth, including the MIIA Trust," reports our Insurance Coordinator Cheryl Stillman. "Over the years, we've witnessed no decline in participation by towns but only steady growth."

According to Ann Ludlow, manager of the MIIA, "Back in '92, we started with 8 towns and 2,000 subscribers. Now we have nine times those numbers with 71 towns and 18,000 subscribers."

This year four towns joined the MIIA Trust. In addition to Northampton, on which we reported in our July Voice, the towns of Athol, Wakefield and Monterey have also decided to participate in the pool.
