Administered by MetLife beginning July 1.
Eligibility: You must be insured by the GIC, including the GIC’s RMT (Retired Municipal Teachers) Program. Voluntary Program: You can join if you want. Remember if you drop coverage after joining, you can’t re-enroll. Enrollment: You can enroll during open enrollment (April 17 thru May 18), when you retire or when your COBRA coverage ends (18 months after retiring). Lower Monthly Premiums: Beginning July 1, you will pay approximately 11% less - $23.93 for individual; $57.64 for family. Premiums are deducted from your monthly pension check. Benefits: You are reimbursed a fixed allowance for a particular service according to a schedule set by the GIC, for example $75 for cleaning, $94 for complete X-ray series, and $78 for three surface silver fillings. Maximum Benefit: You are entitled to a maximum reimbursement of $850 annually. Freedom of Choice: You can go to any dentist and be reimbursed for the service according to the GIC schedule of allowances. If you go to a dentist in the MetLife network, he is paid directly, and more importantly, you also receive a discount (see next). Discounts: You are entitled to a discount, possibly up to 30%, from a dentist in the MetLife network. Remember to check whether your dentist participates in the network and what discounts he offers. Waiting Period: You are entitled to reimbursement for all minor dental work (i.e., cleaning, fillings) from the first day of coverage and must wait 6 months for major work only (i.e., crowns, dentures). For More Information: If you can, attend the upcoming health fairs (see GIC Health Fairs, p. 13). Otherwise call our office and ask for Cheryl Stillman.
