Northbridge Approves Insurance Aid For Survivors: Town To Pay 68% PDF Print E-mail
SEPTEMBER 1999 - Northbridge town meeting members recentlyapproved an article which allows the town to contribute 68% toward the health insurance cost of the surviving spouse of a deceased town employee.

Survivors in that community had previously paid the full 100% premium cost, with the town making no contribution. The town pays 68% of the premium cost for employees and retirees.

"Many of our members were concerned that if they should die their wives would be hit with a huge insurance premium. This will ease their worries and also will be a big relief to those widows currently paying 100%," said Northbridge Retirement Board chairman Paul Sohigian, himself a retiree and elected member of the Board.

Sohigian said that fellow Board members John Meagher, Ken Anderson, Alice Ferro, and Jeanne Sohigian were "behind the town meeting article all the way." Sohigian also praised town officials and town meeting members who gave the article their support.
