JULY 2005 - With the adoption of the coalition bargaining law (see May Voice),
Dracut officials have been negotiating with one committee on health
insurance for all of the town's retirees, employees and survivors. That
committee is comprised of a representative from each of the local
unions and one retiree representative, who is designated by our
Association.
"We're pleased that Mary Jones has accepted our offer to serve as the retiree representative on Dracut's committee,"announced Association President Ralph White. "She is the latest in a distinguished list of designees who have been representing their fellow local retirees on other committees, dating back to 1993 when Bob Foley was first appointed to the Framingham committee." Jones retired as Dracut's assistant town treasurer in 2002 during the last series of municipal ERIs (early retirement incentives). She began her career with the town some 16 years earlier as the payroll clerk and was assistant town treasurer for over 10 years. "Mary has also been serving on Dracut's insurance advisory committee and was heavily involved in the town's adoption of coalition bargaining," according to White. "It's obvious that she brings a great deal to the committee." "I couldn't agree with Ralph more," adds Fire Captain Andy Powell, who is the committee's chairman. "While working with Mary on the advisory committee, as well as on the adoption of coalition bargaining, I've been impressed by her knowledge of insurance issues affecting retirees and dedication to serving their best interests." Good luck to Mary, Andy and the Dracut committee. |
