MAY 2000 -
Hingham, which unsuccessfully attempted to enact special legislation
that would have excluded COLAs from fixed pensions, is petitioning for
retroactive acceptance of our COLA law.
On
April 23, Hingham Town Meeting was scheduled to vote on a petition to
the Legislature which would allow the Hingham Retirement Board to
retroactively accept Section 103 of Chapter 32 (1997 COLA law),
requiring that COLAs, once paid, become permanent.
We welcome Hingham’s return to the reservation and will strongly support the town’s petition to the Legislature.
