Special Recognition to 10th Anniversary of 9/11

SEPTEMBER 20, 2011: With the nation preparing to recognize the 10th anniversary of 9/11, two days prior to that date our Association's 43rd Annual Meeting, over 500 members gathered on September 9th and in our own way, we opened the meeting with a remembrance of that never-to-be forgotten day.

After opening prayers with Association President Ralph White recalling the names of our two members who were on Flight 11, which crashed into the World Trade Center, and a member's brother who was also killed in his office while working at the doomed site, Rene Rancourt of Boston Bruins fame sang our national anthem followed by God Bless America by the entire membership. There was also special recognition of the multitude of veterans who were in attendance.

Upon updating members on the status of our Association's pension and other legislation, the President introduced guest speaker, Senator Katherine Clark (D-Melrose), the Senate Chairman of the Legislature's key Joint Public Service Committee.
The inclusion of Senator Clark in the program couldn't have been more timely. Later that day, the Public Service Committee voted to approve long-awaited pension reform legislation earlier filed by Govern Patrick, and sent the bill on to the Senate for further action.

In addition to Senator Clark, the meeting featured another guest, Norfolk County Treasurer Joe Connolly who also chairs the Norfolk County Retirement Board.

NOTE TO ASSOCIATION MEMBERS: Additional text and a wide array of photos will be included in our November edition of the Voice, our Association's publication.
