Vote Scheduled Thursday 1/18

JANUARY 16, 2018: The state’s Group Insurance Commission (GIC) is scheduled to select the agency’s health plan offerings this Thursday. All six health plans currently offered by the GIC are up for contract renewal for Fiscal Year 2019, which begins July 1.

Last month, the 17-member Commission voted to contract with two pharmacy benefits managers (PBM) for the coming fiscal year. The Commission unanimously selected Express Scripts (non-Medicare and active employees), as well as CVS CareMark (Medicare enrollees). The deals will reportedly save in excess of $700 million over the coming 3 fiscal years.

Association officials will be present at Thursday morning’s meeting and will report any breaking news impacting retirees. In addition to our website and toll-free hotline, a detailed report on the changes coming to the GIC will be included in the March 2018 edition of the Voice.

Reminder: The GIC’s statewide seven stop public hearing tour begins this Friday, January 19th. Details can be found, here.
